Hi, I have checked several linux on this machine, most older-kernel linuxes that I have tried could use acdr or cedar-view drivers and everything was fine except for playing very high quality movies in which a lag between sound and video was apparent and not any good indeed.

You should not try to update the kernel. Everything works fine including the brightness and sound Fn keys!!!! In effect, I have to restart my Xserver upon resuming, rendering all the work I save by going to sleep useless.
